The Place of Finding – The Îles-de-Boucherville Discovery and Services Center
The Îles-de-Boucherville National Park Discovery and Services Center, Canada, recently has won several prestigious architectural awards, including the canadian “Green Building Awards”. The new Discovery and Visitor’s Center serves as the main welcome point for visitors arriving at the Îles-de-Boucherville National Park will also act as a forum in which to showcase Quebec’s network of national parks. This project embraces a philosophy of “discovery” for a unique experience of the built environment that is singular and respectful of its context in the natural surroundings.
A few kilometres from Montréal, right in the middle of the St. Lawrence, five little islands form Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville. This park offers green spaces, channels teeming with life and waterside trails. Walkers, cyclists and canoers come here for a breath of fresh air and a break from city noise. Others enjoy a trip back in time to discover some of the First Nations that spent time on the park’s islands.
In the winter, Île Sainte-Marguerite offers skiers and snowshoers a paradise of snowy landscapes. The peaceful atmosphere is conducive to spotting animals and signs of their presence.
