EXPERIENCE Floriada-2012 – Be a Part of Nature

Within seven months of 2012 in the city of Venlo there were held the latest in a series of Floriade, and Holland was the center of attraction for florists, gardeners, landscape designers, flower lovers and perceptive connoisseurs of beauty. It really is a unique event, because the World Horticultural Expo happens once in ten years! The exhibition was visited by millions of people, and every time after those festivals to the joy of the local townspeople there were remained a gorgeous new park.

First Floriade took place in 1960 in Rotterdam and then in 1972 and 1982 in Amsterdam, in Zoetermeer in 1992 and in Haarlemmermeer in 2002. Floriade is one of the greenest events in the world, which demonstrates the most advanced sustainable technologies. So, in 2002, for the exhibition energy supply has been used 19,000 solar panels.

CLOSER TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE

The Floriade 2012 Park in Venlo was 66 hectares in size and consisted of 5 unique themed worlds, Relax & Heal, Green Engine, Education & Innovation, Environment, and World Show Stage, separated from one another by woods. Each world had its own decor, programme and activities. Floriade acquainted visitors with more than 100 gardens and pavilions with unique flowers and plants from all around the world. The theme was: “Be part of the theatre in nature get closer to the quality of life”. Sustainability was an important social theme, including during Floriade 2012. It played a crucial role during the construction of the Floriade Park. The source of this inspiration is embodied by the Floriade Venlo Principles.
