A Clean State

The most common architectural method that developers use to enhance the aesthetics of their projects is abundance of glass on the facade. However, in reality these ideas appear difficult to put into practice. For instance, the company AGC Glass Russia that is in charge of glazing in the “Garden Quarters Residential Park” had to use a lot of tricks to achieve the desired visual and thermo- technical effects.

The modern residential complex “Garden Quarters” that is being actively constructed in Khamovniki can be considered one of the last large-scale residential projects in the center of Moscow. This is basically due to the fact that it is practically impossible to find another site that can host a well-balanced composition of 32 buildings (that is how many buildings there are in the “Garden Quarters”) in the historic part of the city. It is not surprising that the chief architect of the project who is not only known in Russia, Sergey Skuratov, engaged a whole series of the acknowledged masters – Yuri Grigoryan, Sergey Choban, Vladimir Plotkin and many others.

As a result there appeared a shape of an elegant complex of buildings that can be considered noble classic and at the same time it is filled with modern impressive details. Thus since the floor area of the buildings turned out very large (more than 450 000 square meters), the architects had to use a set of interesting tricks to visually make the construction lighter. For instance the bricks that the facades are paved with have vivid coloring at the bottom floors and with every storey they gradually become lighter. Consequently the sky seems closer and the houses more distant from one another.

It is possible to add some air to the project by using a great number of glass elements: starting from panoramic windows up to glass paintings. It seems that with that many glass constructions in the market it should not be difficult to realize this idea. But there is more to this. The company AGC Glass Russia that runs the complete glazing of the complex had a whole set of issues to solve.
