Maninkor – Modern Winery with Long History
Autonomous region in the north of Italy – Trentino – Alto Adige in German sounds like Südtirol and originally was a part of Austria but according to the Treaty of Saint-Germain the whole territory passed in 1919 to the Kingdom of Italy. Südtirol is world famous for its stunning scenery, ski resorts, hot springs, delicious food, schnaps and of course wine. It is here on the territory of 15 municipalities a so-called “Wine Route of South Tyrol” with about 70 km long is taking place. Local wineries often differ not only in the field of wine manufacture, but also by quality of their architecture. Famous Manincor winery is located in the commune of Caldaro / Kaltern in few steps from the Kalterer See and is one of the examples of really special architecture.
Its story began long time ago from Enzenberg winery which was based in the Campan castle till the moment it was closed in 1977. It seemed for a while that the familyowned company lasted more than four centuries would never recover. However in 1996 a triumphant revival of traditions occured and business started to work again.
Current Manincor owner – Michael Graf Goess-Enzenberg decided to make wine exclusively from his own grapes, grown on 45 hectares of wine yard and for this reason an expansion of the existing complex was needed. In fact, wine cellars of the winery met the production purposes and storage ones only first few years and then raised a question about their space increasing and general improvement.
So Michael Graf Goess- Enzenberg, together with his friend – architect Walter Angonese, who at that time had a studio based in Bolzano began to study possibilities of building erection in different parts of the estate and Enzenberg after a deep analysis of the territory came to the conclusion that Manincor, founded in 1608, should become heart and core of a new wine project.
