Matidzukuri: Smart Cities of New Generation
The world enters a new era in city planning – starting creation of smart cities, based on modern technologies for the formation of the comfortable living environment. The leader in this process is Japan, where the concept “Matidzukuri” is developed and implemented. This concept is promoted by the Japanese company Nikken Sekkei, the largest architecture and engineering company in the world. For these purposes in 2009 was established Smart City Planning Inc. comprising 25 leading Japanese companies with original technologies and own “know-how” to manage smart city project.
This Smart City Project aims to accomplish four goals through building next-generation environment- friendly city:
1. Reduce CO2 emissions by promoting energy conservation and the use of renewable energy,
2. Offer solutions optimized for various regions throughout the world,
3. Improve Quality of Life (QOL),
4. Contribute to Japan’s environmental industry and the creation of employment.
We aspire to develop those “stateof- the-art” models as new social systems for Japan and the world by our “one stop total solution.”
Various Challenges for deployment of Smart City Various Challenges for deployment of Smart City / Partial Optimization
A Smart City is an environmentfriendly city, created from a combination of concepts and technologies, including enhancement of energy efficiency, careful conservation of resources, and positive changes in the lifestyles of the residents. There are many issues to consider in the building and operation of a Smart City. It is essential to optimize the entire combination of the latest technology and systems/ solutions in all fields, including energy, telecommunications, water, traffic, and waste disposal as functions of the city, by making a comprehensive plan.
The key – “One stop total solution”
Conventional consortiums and project organizations only perform a partial optimization. In the current situation, the developer ends up building a town with a lot of issues unresolved, because the company responsible for each area has their own approach, that is not integrated with other areas. For example, to successfully complete an infrastructure project for “Environmental Energy”, it is necessary to obtain cooperation among several companies focusing on a single overall concept, and to develop a project that combines the necessary technology elements to achieve an overall optimization that satisfies the diverse needs of the government, business and citizens. To achieve this, there must be someone providing a total solution, possessing the strong leadership to exercise total, one-stop management of the entire project, to completely clear all of the issues.
Smart City Project brings together the world’s pre-eminent companies to take full advantage of each company’s advanced technologies and know-how, to provide a total optimization from each source. Our clear solutions are offered for all problems to realize a Smart City, including improved Quality of Life and reduced CO2 emissions through the introduction of renewable energy and the promotion of energy conservation, as well as a contribution to Japan’s environmental industries and the creation of jobs. Furthermore, we aim to present this cutting-edge model from Japan to the entire world as a complete “Social System.”
In Smart City Project, our “onestop total solution” include following six elements:
1. Regional Energy Management System (EMS)
2. Smart Building 3. Smart House
4. Distributed Power Source System
5. Infrastructure for Next- Generation Vehicles
6. Simulation
