Method of Calculating the Ventilation of Underground Parking

Prior to the construction and commissioning of a permanent parking lot it is necessary to prepare a set of engineering and construction as well as technical and economic documentation. Special attention should be given to the design of underground garages; here one has to provide a reliable and efficient ventilation system. Special calculations are carried out so that the concentration of carbonic oxide (CO) does not exceed the threshold limit value. These are based on the floor area of the parking, the number of vehicles, traffic and number of other indicators. The method of calculating the ventilation of underground parkings is dwelled upon in this article.

The projected parking is part of a typical commercial building. According to the classification it belongs to integrated, multi-storeyed, indoor, heated structures; according to the way of transportation it belongs to a ramp-access one; according to the method of storage it belongs to openplan short-term parking lots.

The parking is located on two floors of a typical commercial building:
– The ground level: at the point of +187 200,
– The first (above-ground) level: at the point of +191 100.

To move the carks between the storeys along the parking lot there are 2 double-track straight ramps. To connect the parking with the building space they have staircase and elevator sections.
