The World in a Water Drop
WATER AS PART OF SENSORY PERCEPTION
Italy is rich in water resources, as well as many other developed countries. Their natural beauty gives an incredible inspiration to create a magnificent observatory in which one can study the nature of the inside, while it becomes the “nature in itself.” The design of the complex and the technologies used are completely Italian, but the complex itself could be placed on the water anywhere in the world.
Water mirrors in protected areas such as the water park for seaplanes in Milan (L’Idroscalo di Milano) or Lake Como (Lago di Como), are the perfect backdrop for this project to be implemented in harmony with nature. This becomes possible through the use of environmentally friendly materials (80% of them, such as steel, glass, aluminum, are the products of recycling), and special technological solutions that will allow not only create this complex, but also to use its own power to ensure its functioning.
PROJECT
A floating circular platform with stretches of water and green areas supports the winding 35-meter diameter steel structure and provides a continual interplay between interior and exterior due its transparent surface.
In full view of the spectacular surrounding scenery, two totally suspended floors host exhibitions, meetings and catering activities, making full use of its great flexibility in meeting the different demands of different organizational needs. Green areas also provide oxygen and lovely color effects for visitors. The various levels are connected vertically by a spiral staircase whose thinly water-coated core houses local and technical services.
