Tornado-Shaped Museum
>
Architecture firm Kinslow, Keith & Todd recently unveiled plans for a tornado-shaped skyscraper on top of an existing parking garage in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The building would house a museum dedicated to weather, as well as a storm research center, and a green roof populated with native plants and grasses. The design would also include a revolving bar and a restaurant on the roof.
The structure, located in an area known as Tornado Alley, would visually reference the movement of tornadoes, with lighting designed and placed to evoke a spinning motion. With a height between 75 and 90 meters, the tower would be placed atop an existing two-story 1920s warehouse, located in close proximity to two of Tulsa’s most prominent tourist attractions – the BOK Center and Cox Business Center.
Its facade would include glass and perforated metal, while some roof surfaces would be covered with native grasses and plants. Currently, the project exists as a concept design, but the architects have been approached by several developers interested in adding housing and office units to the original design.
