The New Strands
In the resort area of St. Petersburg, north of the dam toward the Sestroretsk planned to build a new town on the man-made island, covering almost 400 hectares, which will become a part of the Great St. Petersburg. Near the village of Lisy Nos in 2015 will appear new of land subject, where will be built millions of square meters of housing and infrastructure facilities. The project developer has already been selected it is one of the world’s, leading architectural firms - Nikken Sekkei, known for its caring attitude towards nature and the ability to effectively leverage any area.
Large-scale project named the “New Coast” is planned to be invested 250 billion rubles. This new city will house more than 60,000 people, for who will be created the necessary social infrastructure. There is also planned to build 10 schools and 18 kindergartens, three clinics, eight sports centers, art galleries, a library, the palace of justice, parking and a marina for yachts. Low-rise buildings will be preferred and take up to 80% of the territory. Business-class highrise development with a maximum height of 70 m is provided only in the area of the dam. On the embankments will be habilitated comfortable city beaches with total length of about 5 km. At present have been completed the work on the island masterplan development, where is planned to build 2 million housing, and about 1 million sq. meters of cultural and community facilities and offices. In the future, the proposed architectural solutions will be worked through in detail with the involvement of the world’s best architectural firms on the tender’s basis.
The project intent, including the commercial one, is in transforming of Kurortny region of St. Petersburg into recreational area, a place where people could feel their identity with nature. Low-rise buildings will allow smoothly enter a new area in the existing development. The town center will become so called “Festival Core”. There will be situated a water amusement park, hotels, cinemas, ice skating, shopping malls, restaurants. It is expected that the “New Coast” will become a new point of interest of St. Petersburg, one of its sea fronts. Taking into account its location, there is a possibility that in the future status of the project will be strategic.
