On Ecological Construction Basis

What did Russia know about the green building a few years ago? They spoke about it in general: some connected it with solar cells and wind turbines, some attributed to marketing companies, and others referred to country projects on basis of eco-development. But nobody had a clear idea about it. Today the situation is changing.

In September of 2007 a developing company from Sankt-Petersburg was the first which inquired of a consulting maintenance for constructing objects on green building basis. The circumstance roused us to develop that direction being new for Russia ASAP. As result, in spring of 2008 “EcoStandard Group” was certified by the US Green Building Council as first and unique - till our days – adviser in the green building in Russia and CIS.

A number of addresses in our company kept increasing but real contractual relationships didn’t go as far as that. In our opinion, it was attributed with builders’ incorrect understanding of the green building concept and reluctance to invest in expensive equipment, materials and technologies. However, the direction is very prospective for our country if to understand it correctly.

An ideology of green, bio-positive or rational building appeared in USA and Western Europe at the end of 1970s, and in 1990s it obtained a special popularity generally thanks to a conference of UNO in Rio de Janeiro dedicated to the environmental protection. In the same time the US Green Building Council was founded in USA, it supports green technologies, estimates and certifies buildings and structures in terms of their influence on the health and environment.
