Green World in the Heart of Singapore

TA renowned residence iliv@Grange in Singapore is a product of design studio Mercurio Design Lab (MDL), known for its unique high end projects. This is the only housing complex in the city with interiors inspired by the famous designer Philippe Starck. Being situated in a prestigious location on Grange Road, in the mere vicinity to the main shopping belt, Orchard Road, iliv@Grange offers exclusive condominium experience for the most refined taste.

ARCHITECTURE
As an architect for iliv@Grange Mercurio Design Lab took on a mission of designing an unconventional and unusual building in the context of Singapore architecture, making this condominium an absolute stand out on the architectural scene of Singapore. First and foremost they intended to create a residential development which would give its residences a cozy feeling of home and a welcoming warmth, which would to some extend resemble a cocoon where the resident will feel comfortable, safe and warm. The design objective was to create an iconic, classy and highly efficient development that will satisfy both the residents and the developer.

MDL used their skillfulness and passion for beautiful architectural masterpieces to create a design which would give people a perception of ample space inside without compromising on the overall building efficiency. They created an unusual effect of roundness of the entire facade as the elliptical shape of the building gives an additional openness to the view and to the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. It dramatically amplifies a perception of space, even though physically they could not give that space as they were GFA and efficiency cautious when designing the building.

There were plenty of restrictions imposed, however Mercurio Design Lab took them as an opportunity to come up with something unusual despite the fact that you are bound by the rules and regulations, as that is what creativity and good design are all about, even though creative thinking requires a lot of manpower, time and negotiations with the regulators.

Working on the design of iliv@ Grange MDL first came up with a three-dimensional concept of the building, with the concept of volume it will portray. The building shape resembles the Calla Lily, a flower which embodies beauty, sensuality, elegance and purity; the attributes inspiring the soft gentle lines and curvaceous silhouette of iliv@Grange. The architecture is also reminiscent of a woman’s silhouette, a mirror of the trumpet-like shape of the Calla Lily, establishing a natural interaction with the building. MDL’s architectural design solution has taken on a distinctively organic sculptural dimension, making iliv@ Grange stand out from among the commonly seen “boxy” developments around the vicinity.
