“Thousand Trees” – New Silhouette of Paris

Led by OGIC and Compagnie de Phalsbourg in collaboration with architects Manal Rachdi OXO Architects and Sou Fujimoto, the project “Mille Arbres” (“Thousand Trees”) has seduced the jury of “Réinventer Paris” with its innovative proposals. The project that creates the link is a symbol of the benevolent city.

The first thing that striking at first sight – the abundance of vegetation and the human scale. It is a joint work of two architecture offices, one Japanese, and another one - French. The first, Sou Fujimoto Architects, nourishes a continued reflection on the relationships between man, building and nature, between nature and architecture. The second, Manal Rachdi - OXO Architects, is a young Parisian office that also places nature in the heart of the city. Together, they’ve worked to provide the West of the capital with a new skyline.

The “Pershing” plot and the transferable volume over the Périphérique, Avenue de la Porte des Ternes for the construction of a bridging building, are located between the Porte Maillot and the Porte des Ternes next to the Palais des Congrès de Paris. This currently under-used site will be at the heart of the Porte Maillot renewal operation, a strategic part of Greater Paris, linking the central business district with La Défense. The exceptional visibility of this plot and the importance of the traffic flows through it call for an innovative and cutting-edge project.

Although the terrain currently has a parking lot and a bus station, it is destined to be developed, with the possibility of being extended by the development of a bridging building over the Périphérique in line with the Avenue de la Porte des Ternes. Its enhancement will go hand in hand with the different infrastructure and development projects in the sector. “Mille Arbres, with its village and inhabited forest, proposes a new green skyline for Paris.”
