Sustainability in All
The oldest and largest in Denmark architectural firm CF Møller waS founded more than 90 years ago. Today, it has offices in Copenhagen, Aalborg, Oslo, Stockholm and London, and is headquartered in Aarhus. Our European correspondent met Julian Weyer, partner of CF Møller in Århus to talk about the specifics of the Danish architects’ works, commissioned buildings and projects on which work is still under way.
Can you tell me briefly about the structure of your company?
Yes, sure. The company’s history goes back to the 1924 from the year of its establishment. In 1930 it used to be the biggest office in Denmark with 50 people working there. Nowdays we still stay the biggest one with 350 people.
Could you please specify: 350 people you have in total, including departments in London etc.?
Yes, exactly so. The most important is that in 1950 the structure was changed into a partnership. Nowadays we are already 4th generation of partners. But our structure today is very important not only as a partnership let us say but also as a collective. We have number of partners in charge of the permit, in charge of the project but we also have partners who work directly inside the project. We have a really flat structure it’s not very hierarchical. So we are not just a management team- we are also working as architects on different projects. That’s quite important for us of course.
Making the work we also have to be careful that we are not dominating the process. We are not working in the hierarchical way. Literally it’s not that I just say that but it’s really truth- anyone in the office working on the project have a chance to influence on it, also interns if they have a good design. If we don’t have specialist in a certain field in Danish office, we go for example to our UK branch and collaborate with them.
