Living in Cube
An interesting fact, but if we look on the development in the field of for example car creation and then on architecture, we would be surprised to figure out how far ahead is the first one mentioned in comparison with the other. But our life is constantly changing. We start to work, study, travel on a very different speed, have more opportunities than ever before. Today we can easily get any information we need from the Internet and such a thing as “wealth” is nowadays mostly expressed in a high degree of mobility.
We have flat-screen TV, refrigerator, freezer, PC with internet access and direct connection to numerous smartphones, LED lamps with increased duration of work and much more. Previously to study and to work we needed hundreds of books and space at home large enough to store them. Now this problem does not exist anymore because even sitting in a totally empty room we are just a click away from access to libraries all over the world.
We are in constant touch with the world even in the air, and contemporary interiors of planes struck us by their practicality, comfort and compactness of personal space with Internet access, lighting, airconditioning, possibility to connect a mobile phone and so on. During the flight we can enjoy surprisingly light special cutlery and eat food directly on board. So why not to try to move this micro-world on earth?
That was how the architectural company Horden Cherry Lee from the UK was thinking. And in November 2005 Richard Horden and his students from the Technical University of Munich realized a trial project of micro-compact housing. It is based on the concept of creating high-quality space for temporary-short stay. The micro-compact home was designed especially for people with mobile work and those who prefer to minimize materials use, but to expand their life experience. Such property may be owned or leased in completely different cities, in the mountains, in the woods or at the seaside. So what does the micro-compact home offer?
