“Smart City” Lab: Buildings as Effective Habitat

(Issue of a magazine 1/2014, page 114)

In human activity at all times existed breakthrough trends that accumulate the most outstanding achievements in technology, science and creative work. It is quite fair to classify highrise structures and other unique facilities as the ones mentioned above. Their typical features are an extremely large abundance of complex technological equipment as well as urge of their designers to comply with the green standards, caused by the necessity of the enviromental impact mitigation.

Green but Seasoned!

Green but Seasoned!

(Issue of a magazine 4/2013, page 106)

Power industry is a core sector of the global economy developing at a fast pace. If we compare the planet’s population growth with energy consumption we may notice rather alarming trend. Even with today’s dramatic population increase power consumption rates soar three times faster than the number of people: if the global population is doubling every 40 to 50 years, the power consumption tends to be 3–3.5 times higher for the same period. That’s exactly why power shortage and need of alternative vs. traditional energy sources have become more acute recently.

Carrier: Heat Recovery Systems

Carrier: Heat Recovery Systems

(Issue of a magazine 4/2013, page 114)

In the previous issue of the Green Buildings magazine we reviewed heat recovery systems based on heat pumps with water-cooled condenser. Continuing the theme begun in this issue examine monobloc air-cooled chillers with air-cooled condensers.

Complex Light: Lighting Management Systems

Complex Light: Lighting Management Systems

(Issue of a magazine 3/2013, page 104)

Lighting engineering design of public buildings – is a complex process, which, in addition to the necessary certificates, requires from the staff of the developercompany specialized knowledge and experience. Without these components it is almost impossible to implement any plan. The Russian company TRINOVA offers a professional approach to the complex design solutions for lighting and lighting design using advanced Lighting Management Systems (LMS).

Recovery Systems: How to Improve the Energy Efficiency of Buildings

Recovery Systems: How to Improve the Energy Efficiency of Buildings

(Issue of a magazine 3/2013, page 108)

It’s known than buildings are responsible for 40% of the total primary energy consumption and major part of the energy consumed in buildings is used for HVAC and heating systems. Of course, these values are greatly depending on climate conditions, but in any case a set of measures aimed at developing energy efficient solutions and optimization of building systems efficiency should be considered.

In the previous issue of our magazine (“Green Buildings”, № 2, 2013), we started publishing chapters from the book “Sustainable Architecture in Japan: The Continuing Challenge 1900 – 2010 & Beyond “, published on the 110th anniversary of Nikken Sekkei. Here we bring to your attention the chapter “Heat”, which deals with modern methods of maintaining the temperature of the comfortable working and living environment.

Exploited Green Roofs: The Technology of Installation

Exploited Green Roofs: The Technology of Installation

(Issue of a magazine 2/2013, page 90)

In the age of rapidly growing metropolises and large cities, where the land prices constantly soar, the developers and the owners of buildings are trying to make the best use of the available space. Therefore, in their architectural projects designers increasingly use schemes that involve accessible roof areas, which do not only protect buildings from the poor weather conditions but can also be used as a public space with green areas for relaxation and various events.

Green Roofing in Russia: Challenges and Perspectives

Green Roofing in Russia: Challenges and Perspectives

(Issue of a magazine 2/2013, page 96)

Principles of sustainable construction, which were formed in the 20s last century in Western countries, include a broad list of requirements to buildings in large cities, where environment needs serious improvements to the best. Green standards, such as LEED, BREEAM and etc., present now an important factor in shaping public attitude to emerging challenges and enhancing the living comfort in metropolitan areas. In the range of phenomena, which form the idea of sustainable building there is a separate component which is green exploited roofing.

How to “Grow” a Green Business Center

(Issue of a magazine 2/2013, page 100)

Sustainable construction in Russia is still in its formation stage. Projects, which are implemented only in compliance with the regular European standards are already being positioned as the sustainable building samples. At the same time, in the market there are also presented genuinely energy-efficient buildings, capable to save to their owners millions of rubles. Amongst them is the first energy-efficient intelligent building project in St. Petersburg – the multifunctional Business Center «Alpiysky», winner of the Hi-Tech Building Awards 2011 for “The best solution for the automation of commercial real estate.”
