Library in Bruges: History and Modernity
Back in 2012, the City of Bruges in Belgium organized a competition for the renovation and expansion of the Sint-Andries city library. The winner was Antwerp-based Studio Farris Architect who managed to create a building that stood out from the crowd. Covered in maintenance-free, rusty Corten steel panels, it creates a stunning contrast against the white plastered skin’s main building.

Hot on the heels of the discovery that liquid water exists on the Red Planet, NASA has crowned ICE HOUSE as the winner of the 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge for Mars. New Silhouette of Vasilyevsky Island
A team composed of KCAP Architects&Planners and ORANGE Architects has been awarded first place in a competition to design the western-most tip of Vasilievsky Island in St. Petersburg, Russia. The 15-hectare site will become a new part of the city of St. Petersburg, extending it into the Gulf of Finland through a new variety of urban functions. Thus, the project symbolizes the “new face of St. Petersburg as an entrance of the city from the water.”
Alejandro Aravena of Chile receives the 2016 Pritzker Architecture Prize
January 13 was announced that Alejandro Aravena of Chile has been selected as the 2016 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate. The formal award ceremony for what has come to be known internationally as architecture’s highest honor will be at United Nations Headquarters in New York on April 4, 2016.
