A new stunning public park on the site of the historic Washington Canal in the heart of DC ’s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood opened to the public in November of last year. Completed in 2012 Canal Park has transformed three empty lots into a sustainable neighborhood gathering place and destination for the entire city. One of the first parks built as part of the District’s Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, Canal Park has been designed as a vibrant social gathering place and an economic catalyst for the surrounding neighborhood. This is one of the first parks established under the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative - a project developed in 2004 with the aim of restoring the environment in the Anacostia River Basin (Anacostia River), one of the three rivers, which bound the U.S. capital.

Within seven months of 2012 in the city of Venlo there were held the latest in a series of Floriade, and Holland was the center of attraction for florists, gardeners, landscape designers, flower lovers and perceptive connoisseurs of beauty. It really is a unique event, because the World Horticultural Expo happens once in ten years! The exhibition was visited by millions of people, and every time after those festivals to the joy of the local townspeople there were remained a gorgeous new park.

Floriade is an international exhibition of flowers and gardening, held every 10 years in the Netherlands, now is to open only in the distant 2022, but the preparation for it has already begun. For the right to host the Floriade fought four cities, and the winner was Almere. The city is located in the central part of the country, 35 km away from the center of Amsterdam. This is one of the youngest cities in the Netherlands, which is rapidly evolving, so the “Ideal City” (Cité Idéale), proposed by MVRD V, turned out the best solution for future exhibition.

Superkilen is an innovative public park in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Superkilen is the result of the creative collaboration between BI G, Topotek1 and SUPERFLEX , which constitutes a rare fusion of architecture, landscape architecture and art from its early concept to construction stage. The project is part of an urban improvement plan coordinated by the City of Copenhagen in a partnership with Realdania. The objective is to upgrade the Nørrebro neighbourhood to a high standard of urban development liable to inspire other cities and districts.

It is recognized as one of three winners in the nomination of the “Best Chinese futura mega project”. Cooperation between Japan and Russia in the field of urban planning is actively developing. The company Nikken Sekkei closely cooperates with Russian developers and realizes projects of new generation cities in different regions of the country. The challenge is not simply to introduce Japanese technologies in Russia, but take into account all factors including local cultural and historical traditions and ecological state of locality. By relying on the Smart City concept, it is possible to fruitfully work in all directions including waste recycling, creation of «low carbon dioxide society» infrastructure, comfortable environment and improving quality of life. One of these innovative projects is realized in Krasnoyarsk where is launched the construction of the “Krasnoyarsk- City” district. On a bank of the Yenisei River which lavishly supplies Krasnoyarsk with water is a low plateau. In the most northern part of this parcel the company “Monolitholding” erects a residential complex of new generation. In the course of developing the concept, architects tried to create a city rich in eventful cultural life, warm atmosphere and permanent children jolly. This is a city where people will live, grow children, meet with friends and having for it all the necessary infrastructure.
